Rocky;
I dont know if this is possible or if would take up to much space on the board, but I think it would be great if the board had a Fly catalog. We could have members post pictures of their favorite patterns or their variations of them with tying instructions, and brief descriptions of where,when, and how they like to use them.
What do you think?................Tentwing

Sean; We could have a picture of the pattern. And under it a summary of how you use it. ( ie What time of year , what rivers, what it imitates, in detail how you fish it ,and WHY you fish it that way) Tying instructions A brief history of the fly This format would allow it to not only be a catalog of patterns, but a source of education that allows our fellow anglers to teach ways that they have had success with flies in ways that others may not have thought of trying before. (For instance remember when you and I were on the HI and I told you that one of my favorite small stream nymphs was actually an Elk Hair Caddis dry fly with enough lead above it to sink it to the bottom.) something like this.......... 1.......... picture of the fly 2...........tying instructions 3............brief history of the fly 4...........detailed fishing instructions, how, when, why where, and time of year. If we stick strictly to the format then we will have given the members of this board an incredible learning tool/ source of other wise unavailiable knowledge of eastern flyfishing. If done correctly it would basically be an on-line book written by the members of this board. Well what do you think now? ........Tentwing

Sounds good to me guys..... But, seeing how the income of a trout bum fishing guide is a little on the low side...... I might have to take on a nightime job! Let me see what I can come up with. Keep posting on the subject to keep it fresh and on my mind.

TW, I think the idea is OUTSTANDING! BRILLIANT!!...and its pretty cool too. Your method of sinking an Elk Hair Caddis is one that I tried myself on the clinch down at Peach Orchard back in the fall. Petey had shown me how to tie one when we had our get together and the one he strung up was in my dry fly box, which I grabbed by mistake. My nymph box was several hundred yards upstream in the safety of my car. Sooo, I weighted it down and lo and behold it worked. I caught 2 nice bows that day on what seemed to be a desperation move. For someone who is just getting his feet wet in the craft of tying, a section devoted to patterns as you described would be great. I am always surfing the net to try and find patterns so having it here would be awesome. Rocky, I wouldn't call yourself a trout bum, how about fast water angling strategist? Or maybe aquatic bounty hunter. Or research and development coach for an entomologicaly challenged customer base? ;D

Mark; If you liked the "Drowned Elk Hair Caddis" method on the Clinch............? Then just wait til you use it in the Smokies or any other small back country stream. Thats where in April and May it really becomes a stick of dynamite Also try a size #16 black epoxy ant with a piece of lead split shot about 7 inches above it under a indicator. Its another one of my summer back country stream favorites. ......................Tentwing

See....
I told you guys if you didn't keep posting on this thread that it would slip my mind.
I guess we could go through with this on a somewhat limited basis. Members could send in pictures, recipes, etc. Then I could host them on the easttennflyfishing site that is now the homepage for the forums. Right now, I've got a limited amount of storage...but it's definately enough to get started.
Time might be a factor, but if people are sending in patterns via email, I would eventually get them on. I could probably host the whole thing the site, just putting a thread here to announce it and to link to the page.
Anyway, does anybody else have any advice?

This joint just keeps getting better!!!! I will love the new department, but my wife will probably hate it. "Hey honey, come look at this cool streamer pattern!" by the way...note to self. make sure all the #26 nymph hooks you dropped are picked up before your wife walks by bare foot.
