I picked up one of the Lefty Kreh Series 1 fly rods before the trip out to Colorado. It is a 8'6" 4wt, 2pc.
I was looking for an inexpensive rod that I could put in a newby's hand. One that if something were to happen to it I wouldn't go into cardiac arrest and freak out!
I bought the rod for ninety dollars from Cal Ralston's shop at CR Outfitters over in Norris.
The rod is made of IM6 Graphite, with a green blank and green raps and gold lettering. It has a black aluminum uplocking reel seat.
This rod was amazingly smooth to cast and was quite responsive. I had let a friend of mine who is new to fly fishing use it for the entire week before I got to get my hands on it the last day we were out there. I put it to the test that afternoon. It was responsive to the touch and was fun to play fish with. I was impressed with the way the rod handled compared to the price tag. It was not sloppy by any means, and allowed me to stick a fly underneath a over hanging branch about a foot above the water on several occations. The rod was versatile enough to allow me to fish both size 18 parachute adams and size 8 weighted stonefly's.
One of the first things that made question buying this rod was that it is Korean made. I try to make an effort to buy things made in America. But for the price and the things I had heard it was too hard to pass up. I also would have paid a little more for a wood reel seat. The rod would really been prettier if equipped with a wood reel seat. It would have made for a nice finishing touch. It did come with a sock, and for an extra 30 dollars you can get a TFO case. Which isn't a lot of money, just a pain to have to order one.
Overall, this rod makes for a wonderful first timer rod. Inexpensive and easy to cast. If you get a chance to fling one of these rods give it a go. I think you will like the results.
I give this rod an [glow=red,2,300]Elk Hair Caddis[/glow] rating!
