The DH during the season as you know can be great. It gives us a chance to go fishing in a situation where we stand a better than average shot at a good day numbers wise; and there is also the notion in the back of your mind that a BIG brood stocker might be lurking in the hole that we are about to cast into.
It will allow you to try different flies than you would not normally go to and still have a good chance at success. The access at the DH is usually quite easy, and if you go during the week you might even find some solitude.
Then there is the DL..... ( Disabled List)
The DL offers us the chance at sickness, injury, or any number of possibly life altering events... Since the possibilities are near limitless I will in this writing simply concentrate on my current stay on the DL.
My ( over 40 )body which normally is proficient at over producing fat cells, stiffness in joints , muscle soreness, and general malaise after a 12 hour shift has suddenly changed it method of production.
It would now seem that I am a virtual snot factory. It would seem at this rate I will do a separate load of laundry for whites just to cover handkerchiefs.
You can set a clock as to when my fever will reappear. ( every 4 hours as my Tylenol wears off) There is so much sinus pressure in my ears that I cant hear the TV , However If I turn it up loud enough to actually hear ; it makes my headache worse.
And even if there were any chance that I could sleep through some of this misery (drowziness thanks to my cold medicine), All the extra fluids that I have to drink would have me getting out of bed every 45 minutes to run to the bathroom.
So in conclusion ,........ I would give the DH an easy Elk Hair Caddis
.......... The Influenza version of the DL would certainly rate low on theStink Bait scale.
The above statements are not worth two cents, and even if they were those two pennies are probably covered in the nasty little virus that put me here So just hang onto your money .......Tentwing
