I recently won a small stream chest pack made by Fishpond. It is called the San Juan and measures 81/2"x5"x3" and I couldn't be happier with it. This past weekend I fished the Smokies and gave the pack its first test drive. Without becoming cumbersome, I packed it with the following: a spool of 6x and a spool of 5x tippet, floatant (which fit perfectly into the elastic holder on one side of the pack, 5 9' 6x leaders, forceps, clippers, a roll of indicator yarn, a 5"x3" fly box, and one can of Copenhagen . I didn't have to stuff anything. Lots of room. It also comes with a fold down fly box that held the primary flies I expected to use during the day. I actually could have done without my larger fly box....but you never know what you might need. It fit comfortably and not once did it shift as I negotiated the river. The zippers are easily used with one hand without requiring the other to steady the pack, and after a full day on the water it never felt uncomfortable. I think the retail on this pack is around 40 or 50 bucks, and I think it is worth every penny. Summertime in the park without waders and a hot fly vest is optimum and this little pack delivered. If you are wanting to take just the bare basics with you on a trip this is a good pack to consider. It comes in three or four different color combos (mine is sand and olive). The only downside to it is that the clips that connect the straps are very tight and hard to open, but other than that it is a winner.

Thanks for the report Varmit. I eye balled one of those before going with a lanyard in the drifter. I was looking for something I could use while rowing the boat. Sounds like a good buy! Petey
