This past Christmas I was lucky enough to get a new back pack from my wife. I had been wanting one for years because for about the last 10 or more I have been hauling around a Lowe Alpine. Not a bad bag, but it was undersized, worn out and out dated.
I shopped around at all the local stores, did research on the internet, examined my budget and in the end decided on the Palisade. It offered everything I was looking for and more.
I have gotten a few over night trips out of it and a weekend hike up to Slick Rock. It is has been a dream thus far.
One thing to do before buying a pack is to get properly fitted. I went to one place and they said I needed a large. I am 5-8 on a good day. I put the large on my back, thought it felt a little big but went ahead and bought it. After getting it home and sitting on it a few days I went back and hooked up with another salesman. He threw the sizer on me again and he said I needed a medium and that the last person who sized made an error. It was a good thing because it would not have been fun to have gotten out on the trail with a fully loaded pack and it not ride right.
The Palisade is an internal frame pack. In a medium it can pack up to 5100 cu. inches. It has a two dry storages with water proof zipper comparments. It also has a direct access to the middle of the pack. It has Gregory's Flo Form waste and shoulder padding. It comes with a sleeve for a camel back type water bladder that can be filled and used during hikes. It also has a Nygene bottle holster. It also has access to bottom storage that has a shelf that can detached to make the pack one big compartment or can be used to create two seperate compartments. The top storage compartment can be detached and used as a day pack if need be.
If you like to get out and hike into places where the fish are less hurried, being able to carry your gear in comfort is a plus. Having something that can carry everything you need and not having to strap stuff on the outside of the pack is key. So far my Gregory has been able to do everything I have asked of it and in style.
Here is a link to the Pack itself, mine is in the Lichen Green.
