So, do we have any plans on the burners yet. I liked TeeDub's idea from a few months back. Either way, with it now being 2009, we might need to get the ball rolling on this. Who is the strawboss on this here site anyway? Ideas?

here are my requirements for the winter trip:

My requirements are not quite as stringent as DD's, But the flowing water one?..... preferably flowing DH or trophy water is nearly a deal breaker I also require the freedom for un-restricted Lie telling Rocky ; if it has been more than 24 hours since i had an Idea?.....thennnnnnn its probably a safe bet that I have forgotten my own idea. ................But if your thinking about maybe having a get together close to the new Cherokee trophy water on the Raven Fork then that is an idea that I would gladly take credit for ;D That would put us in easy driving distance of the Nan, The Tuck, The Little River, and the park also Well what say ye ? Gents?? ..............Tentwing

I think Tentwing's idea is a great one. I fished the Trophy Water about 2 weeks ago and it was great. Any place you guys decide on would be fine with me. The sooner we get it put together the better. I hope everyone has a great 2009.

I am game for going over the mountain for a weekend.
Would we stay in the same cabins? My understanding is that the trophy water at Cherokee is about 30 minutes from the cabins on the Nan. Or is there better accommodations elsewhere that would be central to all the places mentioned above by TW?

Yes TW, I like the idea of the Cherokee trophy water.
I have no clue what the cabin situation is in Cherokee, but I know of a KOA real close by, a local store that advertises cabins, and a few other cabins advertised online.
I was impressed by what I saw there, and like mentioned....it is close to the other NC fisheries.
I also like the idea if you guys didn't want to take my money in cards......I could always donate some of it to the tribe, and help fund that mcdaddy new school. ;D

Cherokee winter water is full of fish and lightly pressured in the winter - even if you weren't partaking in the Trophy Section, there's plenty of water there to spread out around there alone - plus all the waters TW mentioned...not only that those lower elevation waters are "warmer" and I've seen some nice BWO and LBC that had those fat slob stockies acting like wild ones on top...
There is only one thing - they do close all the waters at some point for a period of few weeks, not sure if it was the end of January or in Feb so, read it somewheres...

I'm not sure about other tribal waters, but the new trophy section is advertised on the stream side signs as open year round.
Like mentioned though, even if some of the tribal waters close, that whole area is polluted with places to fish.

While we discuss the places we should convene over here I am going to start a thread that will allow us to Vote on which weekend is best.

Jermz; According to their web site the they stopped closing the tribal waters. They are open 365 as of March 27 2007. They use to close 1/2 their streams on Tuesdays and the other half on Wednesdays for stocking, but apparently that no longer hold true either. Has any decision been made here fellas or are we just gonna go with the Nan/Tuck/Raven Fork/Smokies proximity idea ? .......... ............TW

TW, would it make sense to stay in the cabins we have been in for the past two years? Or do you think we should try to find a place more central to all of those listed, some where in the middle? If we are to relocate to a different place, do you have any ideas for places to stay? In that regards, does anybody have an idea for other places to stay? We could go shack up at the Casino! Petey

There is a KOA with cabins within close proximity (less than a mile) from the Raven Fork Trophy Section. There was another campground named after the stream and I know they have cabins, just not sure if they are open.
A quick google of Cherokee Cabins might bring up some possibilities.
I'm alright with whatever everybody else likes.....but I do like the Cherokee area.
