Well, another ETFFF gathering has come and gone, leaving with us the fun and memorable moments that always seem to follow us around. This Frostbite trip lived up to it's name, as we (some more than others) endured some cold temperatures along with cold rods and hands.
I showed up mid day Friday and struggled all afternoon. Jay did better than I did. Here's a shot of Jay working a deep run down the bank.
I finally got into a good fish late Friday afternoon. He worked me over pretty good as I tried to get the upper hand on him. I ended up chasing him downstream, running through the whitewater and pockets. Jay followed along the bank with his camera in tow. It would have been an excellent opportunity for me to bust my butt in the drink. Fortunately, I didn't fall and was able to steer my rainbow into an eddy.
Eventually, everybody found their way to the cabins to exchange fishing stories and spirits. This guy with the bottle kindly became our unofficial mascot for the weekend. Petey and Marc helped welcome him.
The steak and tater hit the spot Friday night, and he good meal seemed to make the scotch and apple pie go down very easy. The fish tales ran high into the night as we made our way to bed after the incredible "World Yo-Yo Championships"
Saturday saw a firm division from the boys and the men. The men sacrificed, in the bitter cold, for the common good. The boys, slept peacefully in their beds until almost 8:30. Thanks Men! Us boys would have never got to fish the spot had it not been for your frozen fingers and toes!
Here's few pictures of Jermz while he worked the hole. First picture shows him using his now famous "spliced high stick"!
Now this picture is almost worth a 1000 words. This is Jermz with a 26" + Fish on. On 7x tippet. Unfortunately, this was one battle the fish won, and we were left with the excitement of having seen the pig roll on the top.
And finally, here's a nice picture of Jermz with a spunk chunky rainbow.
My first good fish of the day required the help of several other ETF3'ers. First, I took Jermz advice and lost my indicator and proceeded to drag the bottom while high sticking. Then, after I hooked him, I got net and camera service from McDaddy.
As you guys have heard me say time and again, I enjoy the camaraderie of the fishing trips as much as anything, and getting to share the water with all you guys, for most of the day yesterday was a real treat for me. Whether I was watching you all or getting watched....I really enjoyed it.
Here's a shot of Brad working his "deep nymphing" setup.
TW turned his Friday frustrations into Saturday successes. After hooking and losing fish on Friday, he was hooking and landing them on Saturday. Here he is working one in.
And here TW is with a colorful rainbow.
We seemed to do a good job on cycling anglers in and out of the hole as the day progressed. Some would take lunch while others explored further. I took advantage of our close proximity to the cabins for a mid day bathroom break. Unfortunately, this was the start of a little bit of bad luck for me, as the toilet in my room decided to over flow. It never really did recover.
Anyway, I shed some clothes as the day had warmed up a bit. I made my way back to the hole to find it almost empty. I entered the water and it wasn't long before TW and Jay Easter were fishing with me. It was a good thing because I was about to need both of them.
I hooked into another good fish, but this time it decided to run on me. A run that would see it move 75 yards downstream, dodge the net several times, cause TW to do a 4 foot hurdle in the river, and eventually soak me up to my goatee.
Here I am, soaked to the bone.....you can still see water droplets on my fleece.
I went back to the cabin for dry clothes. I tried to work on the toilet some but was unsuccessful, so I decided to go and observe the guys finishing out the day. By now the sun was sinking low, but the fish were still active. Heres a picture of Petey working the hole.
Watching the fish and the anglers almost killed me, seeing how my waders were soaked and I was stuck in blue jeans. Eventually, I had enough and figured out a way to toss some streamers from the bank. A modified roll cast worked well with my sinking line, and eventually I caught a few fish, and finished my day off with this nice hen, that TW had to help me net. Thanks TW.
It seemed the real ETFFF bash was saved up for Saturday night as we all gathered and had a great time. Joking and fish tales were constant as we were treated to some of Jay Easters delicious sausage and peppers.
Laughs were overflowing after Jay played us his phone file about the "F" word.....and then Petey entertained us for a good period of time with his shoes and how easily he could change his soles out.
Korkers does not in any way endorse Petey as a spokesman or demonstrator of their products.
Eventually, all the bottles were empty and all the fish tales were told as we wrapped up our ETF3 Bash. One by one, everyone began finding beds. Some got head starts by sleeping in the chairs, but even they soon moved to the beds.
I can't wait to see some of the pictures you guys took as well as hearing your takes on the weekend. I'm also already looking forward to the next event. hopefully, I'll be able to make the spring fling.
Thanks for the great time guys!
