Hey everybody, my name's Doug Luton I've been fishing the waters of southeastern Pennsylvania, I've only been fishing for about 8 months so I know I need all kinds of help. The family and I are relocating to Chattanooga at the end of May, I have become slightly addicted to Brook Trout fishing and look forward to seeing what TN has to offer. My wife would appreciate any volunteers to go hit the waters with me as I am a diabetic and she hates when I fish alone. If anyone is feeling up to the task holler at me!!!
PS. I am not entirely ignorant, I have had some SPECTACULAR teachers here in PA, one of which learned from one of the greatest, Joe Humphreys. I will miss them sorely, but since my family is from TN I feel sure that there are some folks here who can fill the gap!!

Hello Doug! Welcome to East Tennessee. The upper elevations of our Tennessee streams is plum full with Brook Trout as is North Carolina. Some of these streams even carry the elusive southern brook trout strand. The best thing to do is get your hands on a guide book to kind of familiarize yourself with lay of the land. Jimmy Jacobs has a good book he put out several years ago. Ian Rutter also has some very informative publications.
The Smokies offers brook trout streams that can be accessed by road or trail with out having to venture too far off into the wilderness.
The Tellico area offers some brook trout fishing as well, but it takes a good hike to get to where they are at for the most part. Unless they have been stocked in the North River again like they were last year. But the wild population of brook trout is more remote in this area.
I spent some time up in Emmittburg last year doing some work for FEMA at St. Josephs. I worked with a guy up there who is totally eaten up with the fly fishing bug. Good fella.
I think you will be impressed with the amount of public water we have to fish, from the state line in Southeast Tennessee to the state line in Northeast Tennessee nearly all of our mountain water is either in National Forest or the Smokie Mountains.
