With the date secured, and a healthy head count…its time to get to the specifics.
Here is the itinerary:
You are on your own to fish the vast expanse of the Smokies from thirty minutes before sunup until the mid afternoon.
We will gather at the Applewood Farmhouse Restaurant (if you haven’t eaten there you are in for a treat) at 3, sit on the porch and tell lies until seated, then eat like there is no tomorrow. The restaurant is located right behind Orvis. Just drive around the curve till you see an old farm house and people walking off the front porch carrying to go bags…they lay the food on ya and it is country style cooking!
After being stuffed at this amazing restaurant we will step across the street and our first annual casting competition will begin. And here are the specifics for it. This will NOT be about distance, double hauling, or trick shots. It is all about accuracy. Targets will be set up at various distances and will be numbered 1-5. the first round will be landing a strike indicator in each target 1,2,3,4,5. Second round will be 1,3,5. Third round will be 2,4,1. fourth round will be casting behind you, fourth round will be roll casting to various targets. Each round will be open to all who want to play. The caster with the highest number of points wins. A prize will be awarded along with a lovely certificate suitable for framing. ;D
The rules. No target will be more than 50 feet from the caster. No more than two false casts are allowed per target. Everyone will use the same rod to keep things fair. For each “bulls eye”, 5 points are awarded. For each cast that touches the outer rim of the target, two points are awarded. No points for a complete miss. You get one shot at each target. If you miss…you move on to the next one till your part of the round is complete. In the event of a tie…we draw knives and have an old fashioned donnybrook in the parking lot…
Actually in the event of a tie. Each caster involved will cast as they did in the first round and we will go until a clear winner is declared. I (Varmit) will be the judge and will not participate in the casting event.
Along with the fishing, the food and the competition, a video is going to be shot of the days events and each member present will get a dvd copy at the fall fling.
After the event, if someone who lives in the area wants to invite the crew for libations or if we find a watering hole for the same…I leave that up to the forum and/or the invitee.
This is a first for us and I hope that it will be fun and give us a chance to reconnect, as well as plan our next event which is the Fall Fling.
Hope to see you folks on August 6th!
