Well,.......After attempting to make plans to hit The Nantahala River with Varmit, Bigga ,Marmot, Petey and Rocky this weekend the sand trap of life saw fit to swallow up Rocky and Petey from the get-go, and managed to side swipe Marmot; and effectively delay Varmit and myself at least til Sunday ( Bigga I hope Saturday went well for you ) ( Jay I hope your dad is doing well )
Just when it seemed like the weather would be perfect we drop down over the Cherahola Skyway to find it a full 18 degrees colder on the North Carolina side That combined with the fact that the place I have bought my NC fishing license for the past 13 years was closed ; and I was beginning to feel the impending sense of doom
Then things began to get better. After securing the proper licenses Varmit and I found the place to be devoid of anglers It is usually packed on the weekends As varmit was stringing up a new Boo, I began to think of how much I missed the Nanny. Afterall it was practically my home water when I lived in Dawgville.
It was funny. I was worried that the crowds would show up and I would not have the opportunity to show Varmit but a few of my favorite holes. That feeling of being so familiar with the river and certain honey holes that you feel guilty when you dont get to fish all of them. Almost like your worried that one fishing hole will feel less loved that the others that or maybe there may be that one big lunker that you missed the chance to catch ;D Or even worse that your fishing partner may not like one of your favorite places
All of these fears went away when Varmit hooked up with a rather beautiful large Rainbow on his second cast. Yep he was landing his first of the day while I was still stringing up my Boo. But the real treat of the day was one that the Nanny has delivered to me on several occasions. I got to see Varmit land his very first Brookie ever ;D
All in all the fish were very fat ( except for the two Brookies most of the Bows fell between the 14 and 16 inch mark) and brilliantly colored. There were not massive numbers probably because the anglers in question were to busy shooting the breeze to fish very hard Varmit had quite a bit of luck on an emerger fly of his design , and I landed about half as many as he did. Most of mine came on a size #12 bead head "Damed-if-I-Know"
Pictures to come later,..................Tentwing
