Sunday my Dad and I went over and fished the Tellico Delayed Harvest section. The fishing was rather disappointing. I have been disappointed in this delayed harvest many times before. You would think I would grow to expect it. My hopes are always high in spite of that because of some great outings i had there about 4 or so years ago. It seems that was the only year it was done up right, and it set my expectations really high, especially when they moved the area all they way up to North River, but alas, It has never been as good as it was back then. The weather was beautiful and the company was great. I laughed so hard at times that my gut hurt. So fish or no fish it was a wonderful trip. We fished hard for about 6 hours and landed only 8 trout between us. I even put on my special fly , so as to make sure fly selection was out of the equation. That did not work either. I continue to think that either; Tennessee does not stock their delayed harvest very well or that it gets poached out. I am beginning to think that it gets poached out based on the good reports I continually here about Paint Creek delayed harvest. I will continue to fish this section of water every year regardless. I will continue to have high expectations, and maybe one day the stocking truck will turn over in a corner and re-establish my high expectations once again!

That DH has always been bit of a mystery to me. Never has been able to match those of the North Carolina versions.
Now they are talking about wanting to do a DH on the Hiwassee and away with the quality zone. You believe that? They can't even get the DH right on the Tellico, what the heck are they going to do wih the Hiwassee. More water to poach I reckon....

Never know what to expect up there on the DH. A few years ago it was great. Then it sucked for a few years. Last year it was very good and well stocked with rainbows and even a few brookies.
My few trips up there this year have been similar to yours. All depends on the stocking I guess. Definitely some poaching up there, but you can usually still get a couple of months of good fishing on that DH when decent numbers of fish are stocked.
