Most folks think I am crazy around here for driving to what I refer to as the lower French Broad since we have it 5 minutes away. I reply it's a different river down that far. I went after carp. The weather really didn't work out for it. Gray skies, wind gust, and spits of rain briefly. You just don't sight fish like that in my mind. Or at least I didn't see fish. Plan B. Nymph for carp and bluegill. The bluegill played there part. Nothing big but the indicator went down some on the pulse and after. No fish pics but some random nature and scenery shots. Someday I'm going to do a dam photo layout. I seem to have a lot of dam pictures in my collections from NC and Tn.

I wish I could have gotten out that morning .The smallmouth topwater bite has been very good early mornings on the lower FB. until the sun gets bright and then you have to hunt for shady overhangs. I live 5miles away from the river in Seymour and work in Sevierville. I've had some really good carp fly fishing in the spring when all the gray caddis are hatching daily. They tend to stack up in back eddies and the carp are sipping them off the surface. I was hoping we would have a good cicada hatch here this year and the the carp and smallies would be sucking them down as they did several years ago, but it did not happen. It has been 3 weeks since I've been able to get out on the river , hopefully this weekend I'll be there.

You know I have caught a lot of species below that dam on flies. I have never caught a smallmouth. I always wondered about that. I started fishing one trip to the lake when was just to hot. Went down and caught some big bluegill and white bass. Became a favorite at that point. We may need to go fish that sometime. Your knowledge would be greatly appreciated

Sorry Teachrtec but I haven't been around the forum for another long while. Its been a few months since i've even been able to go fishing. This coming spring in march and april are good times to be on the river like everywhere else. They will be raising the lake then and we will have good gen schedules. I would be glad to offer any assistance with info. and maybe even meet up to fish. I have a boat and a canoe.
