Fished for a few hours this past Sunday afternoon on a local tailwater. While most of the willing participants were on the small side, they took the poppers will vengence.

Hey Smalliechaser, is that a Fenwick fiberglass rod in the bottom picture? The reel seet and first part of the rod sure does look like it. My brother-in-law gave me one earlier this year. Thirty years old and it has hardly been used. 7'6", 5wt. 2 pc. What model rod is that? It really got me wanting more fiberglass... love the action. I was on a tailwater smallie fishing myself nearly all day yesterday. The bite was kind of slow, and the ones I had that were photo worthy spit me or missed. So I just have the memories of fishing some beautiful water and spending the day with some good friends. Petey

Petey, that is a Fenwick 8ft 7wt. 2 piece made back in the 70s. It was a recent ebay purchase. They are great rods with IMO,the most comfortable grips. The other pict. is of my Diamondglass 5wt. with a vintage Martin 67A click pawl reel. I love glass rods and the worksmanship on the older technology equipment. I just wish I hadn't spent so much money over the years on high mod. graphite rods and fancy disc drag reels that have no "feel" when casting or playing fish.
String up that 7.5 ft 5wt with a 6wt bass taper line, they are great for smaller poppers and lightweight streamers on a med size river.

smalliechaser was you taking out a yak below mine road? I was wading throwing a popper in the middle where you took out if that was you.

Green inflatable yak and in a hurry, probably me. I spoke to a couple of guys just upstream of the takeout. I hated to leave, but had to pick up my kids from church at 6pm. The fishing was great all afternoon.

Yeah that was us. My brother spin fishes while I fly. We caught several smaller ones but none of the biggies we were looking for.
