I got to do a little fishing on my recent trip to the Smokies. I revisited a stream that was my first solo trip in the Smokies. It is easy to get to, but the fishing is over and around boulders. I typically like to fish drys when on these small streams in the mountains. After fishing for almost 45 minutes and getting a few hits but no fish I stopped to see and ponder why my success was limited. I realized the water was not really indicative of good dry fishing as I was fishing mostly plunge pools. And the plunge was fairly deep in each pool. A light shined down from Heaven and I was led to tie on a dropper of the tiny copper john persuasion. Lo and behold I started catching fish. The beauty of it was that most of the fish were in the 8"-9+" range. The were also some of the chubbiest rainbows I have caught in the Park. Later I went downriver where the water is more conducive to drys an got my fill of topwater bows. It was a great day on the water. I had one gentleman fish up behind me in the morning but after speaking he left to go downriver also. On the way home I manged to stop high up the Newfound Gap road and catch this.

Great report brother, I was up there also on Friday. It was nice and cool and the crowds were pretty large in the picnic area. Thanks for sharing the trip and the pictures with us. That's a little piece of heaven up there. Hugh
