Well kinda The water generation was favorable today, so I got to go fishing. Well my luck started out on a downhill slide I left my rod in the kitchen, but Cheryl's rod was in the truck ,......... Oh well guess I can sling graphite Now the trout were making me work for my catch ratio, (but they were hard fighting so it was worth it) when I noticed further down stream that some big fish were kicking up the water. When I got down there I found them to be Big carp on the spawn. After a little trial and error I found out what they wanted, and it was on. ;D Those bad boys were big and strong. Most of them broke me off , but I was able to land a few. They would hit like a rock and run like a rocket. I cant wait to go again. I met Jerrys and his wife on the river. What a great pair of anglers; I hope the flies I gave you guys worked for you as well. .............................Tentwing

Tent, It was good to meet you finally, and yes those flies were the deal!!! We had a great time after we got out past those hundreds of "bones". We hooked several but didn't stay hooked for long (mostly foul-hooked). Most of the 'bows we caught were in the 15"-16" range. Lot of fun. Hope your all goes well tomorrow Let's hook up sometime in the near future. Jerry

Jerry; It was great to meet you both. I wish I could have stayed to fish more , but I had a lot to get done today to prepare for my surgery tomorrow. Those Olive Speckled Birds are a very easy tie, and they seem to work best when everything is turning green. The Carp were a blast. Most of them broke me off too. I was only able to net the four smallest ones. It was still a lot of fun though I saw my backing more times today than I have in the past 5 years. I will have to PM you with my time off what little there is of it, so we can see about landing a few more of them. Do you know how long will they be on the spawn? ..............................Tentwing

TW- I've only encountered this "bone" spawn once before and thought I'd caught a 30" brown until I saw those lovely lips I'm not sure how long it lasts but I'd think a week or so. Can you tell me where you found your olive guinea feathers? I've found some at Feather-Craft, but not sure if they are the right ones. What style hook did you use? Those are some surprising great fish-getters! Thanks for sharing Jerry

JerryS; Little River Outfitters has those Guinea feathers as well. Just make sure to buy the package with the smallest feathers in it. Also If you need to get them from Feather Crafters just ask to talk to Ed or Bob or some one who ties flies, and tell them you want the package with the smallest feathers, and the darker olive the better. They tend to lighten in color as you palmer them onto the hook. Speckled Birds seem to do surprisingly well on tail waters. One would think that due to their large size and the fact that they look like nothing that lives in those waters that they could not be effective; but as of right now I 've caught more fish out of the Cumberland on them than any other fly . Spring and summer are the best times for the olive version. They are also terrific Bream Buster I will later today post a recipe for the Olive, Bead Head and Original Speckled Birds with tying and fishing instructions in the Fly Box Forum Right now I have to go to have the patch taken off my eye. Wish me luck .....................................Tentwing

8-)Tent, After you take your patch off and find you have bionic vision, which allows you to spot fish under great depths of water, I'll be your fishing "shadow" from this day forward!!! ;D ;D Seriously, I hope all is well with your eyes and recovery is short. Thanks for the help with my new favorite fly. I'm ordering the feathers right away. Got to be ready for my next visit to Cumberland (and it can't be soon enough). I'll look for your recipe and tying info. Jerry
