This was a very different fling than years past. Several regulars were absent, life had other plans for them, and the overall mood when we were at the cabin was subdued to an extent. Mellow all the way around.
The fishing was excellent. Casting dry flies to fish whose colors matched the changing leaves is something everyone should do at some point in their lives.
We had several new faces with us this year. As I looked around the cabin, the folks present, with the exception of Gary and myself, were not present at the first get together on the Hi. As a matter of fact, out of the origional ETFFF crew, only Gary was present. I guess that Jermz and I were in the second wave.
As always, Brad and Jeremy were nipping at each others heels. Gary was....Gary...always funny, full of info, and ready for what ever came along.
FYI. If we were to vote now on the location of the frostbite, I think those who were at the fall fling would vote to come back. Winter is BWO time on the SOHO...besides, if it is fishing you want with lots of room to move about and ply your craft with odds in your favor...this river is the place.

Very positive Eric. It just felt very odd with some of the regulars not there. Not having Petey in the mix most certainly made things different. And as for D.D., I haven't seen him in two years or more and was looking forward to reconnecting.
The funniest thing for me was the fake russian guy and his unique collection of weaponry. ;D

I need pictures.... I it is good to know I was missed, but I guarantee I missed this trip more. My house is in total chaos and I am up against weather wise with old man winter not far around the corner. So like the saying goes. It is time to put the hay in the barn.
Seriously... I need pics... don't tell me Jermz snapped the only photos of the trip....

I found his guy in the river. Hes fishing with some wierd looking wooden fly rod ;D. But boy he sure could cast it! Oh ya, I wanted to cast that fine fly rod and forgot to ask. The first bamboo rod I ever threw was about 300yds downstream of where we were and I caught a fish on the first cast! I handed it back to to guy he said keep fishing. I told him no way I am at 100% on bamboo who can say that ! Heres the only fish I shot a pic of, not even a great one but all I took. Hate you had to miss it Petey, I would have liked to met you after all this time. STU

Man, when I got home, I hit the floor running...my son's whole first string and coaches had set up shop in my living room and were going over tape for the playoffs (which they won by the way tues nite) and its been non stop around here since... Anyhow, I finally got a chance to sit down uninterrupted. I agree with Varmit, was a fling of a different essence. Always good to catch up with some of the usual suspects - tho with some regulars absent, it was a lower key event - meaning, Brad actually made it on the water headache free before midday, though he did bust it royally on a muddly bank on command and soiled his waders....oh yeah, the boy does snooooorrrre. ;D It was a great time just the same, just what the dr ordered....you cant go wrong with a cabin on the soho, fall foliiage, a fly tying station at the dining room table, constant sulphur dry action, rock islands complete with grass appearing overnight in the river were we just fished the day before, and sharing it all with fish-minded people....it was great to meet new faces, and Eric - thanks for setting everything up. Ultimately, it was a chance to slow down and feel the currents, take in the autumn air, and to figure out what dag blasted sulphur pattern those finicky fish were wanting during the hatch. I ended up with a biot body cdc on my tippet most the time, (though they hammered a swung olive bugger during the gen pulse) Stiil, ain't nothing like dry fly'n skinny water for nice colored up browns, and mostly browns. Maybe a couple of bows the whole weekend (granted I missed most of saturday cuz of the wedding) Heres some pix for ya petey, though I didn't take many as I'd like....I vote for SoHo for frostbite - so we can figure out the dag blasted BWO's... Goood times...those who missed it were missed....lookin forward to the Frosty - we outta start figerin' it out soon so more people can clear the calender
