Sure you could just spin fish. Not like I would look down on it.

I would rather abandon trout altogether than suffer them the indignity of catching them on anything other than a fly rod. To do so would be to lump them in with scur such as catfish, crappie, and on the off occasion, suckers.... ;D

The water feels the same running across you legs, the sun shines just as brilliantly, the air smells of the same damp forest, the birds sing just as lovely, the trout fights just as gallantly, and strike just as aggressive no matter what kind of rod you are holding Varmit! Get out there by golly, I guarantee you you'll enjoy it better than staring out the window wishin you were fishin!

Jay, I don't doubt it a bit, but when you have as much money tied up in fly gear as I do you can't fish any other way. Kinda like drivin a gremlin when you have a hummer at the house. they both get you where you want to go, but you'd enjoy the ride in one more than the other.

Mark; There might be an opportunity hidden in your post surgical recovery. After tearing my rotator cuff . I found I spent more time at the vice and i also worked on my left handed cast which has served me well since especially on small places like the North River. The one thing That I discovered during my injury recovering time is that teaching a newby to fly fish is far more rewarding than fishing yourself. I remember guiding my 16 year old nephew though drifts on the river and setting the hook and the utter look of shear happiness than ran across his face as that first 16 inch Cutthroat began to get close enough to the surface for his golden sides to gleam in the mid day sun. There is nothing like sharing a stream that holds a special place for you with a new friend or and old friend who is a new angler. I remember standing at the edge of the Nantahala stringing an old cane pole, and after explaining the run watch a new friend pull is very first Nantahala trout out of the very same hole where I had also caught my very first Nantahala trout some 12 years before. That feeling while hard to describe is a feeling I wish all of you could have Marc encourage a newby or an new board member to come to the Frostbite, and show him why the " River of the Mid-day Sun" is so special. You won't regret it i promise Tentwing
