FlyTire, was so generous to supply these instructions for posting pics. It was suggested that they should be a staple for the site for all to use.
Posting photos on a forum or bulletin board
1. Make sure your photos reside on your hard drive in your computer. Create a sub folder in the “MY PICTURES” folder and name it accordingly.
2. Open a free account on one of the webs photo hosting sites such as
www.shutterfly.com,
www.myfishingpictures.com,
www.snapfish.com,
www.photobucket.com or even your ISP may have space reserved for you to post photos. Create an album for your photos.
3. Upload your photos to the album on the photo-hosting site that you have chosen. Now the photo resides on the “WEB” and has a web address that can be downloaded to forums and bulletin boards.
4. Compose your forum or bulletin board message. You are now ready to insert your photo. Open your photo-hosting site, open your album and right click on the photo you want to post. A dialog box will appear and click on the phrase “Copy Image Location” (NOTE: "Copy Image Location" is the term used in the Mozilla Firefox browser, it may be "copy" in other browsers). (This operation works for the 3 photo hosting sites above using the Mozilla Browser). This saves the photo on the computers clipboard.
5. Go back to the bulletin board message to post your photo. Look for an icon for inserting images. Scrolling the mouse pointer over icons reveals what the icon does. If the forum/bulletin board does not have the icon for images, that’s OK because you can type in the UBB code to add images. That code will be as follows: . Notice that the opening
does not have a “/” in it, only the ending does.
6. In either case, whether you had to type the code or found the add image icon button you will have to paste the photos location between the brackets. Put your blinking cursor between the end bracket of the opening code and the front bracket of the closing code: like this [xxx]paste the photo info here[/xxx]. Right click between the brackets and click on “PASTE” in the dialog box. The location of your photo should be between the brackets.
7. Complete your post to the forum/bulletin board and submit. You might want to “Preview” your post if the forum/bulletin board has that feature.
8. Voila, your photo magically appears.
Some additional advice is to edit your photos for the web by using one of the popular photo editing software available such as Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro, Macromedia Fireworks MX etc. If you don’t want to pay the hundreds of dollars these programs cost, then try out a free photo editor called “Photofiltre”.
Another good idea is to resize your photos, so users don’t have to scroll from left to right and top to bottom to see your photo. For a free photo-resizing program, you might want to try Microsoft’s “Image Resizer”.
I did a GOOGLE search for photo resizing software and there are a lot of good programs on the web that are freeware and shareware.
Good luck, it’s really easy to post photos.
Please create a folder in your computers "My Documents" area called "Posting a Photo" and save the above info to that folder for future reference.
Thanks Norm for the great instructions. ;D
