Just got this in today and must say that it is very impressive on just looks along when you take it out of the plastic. I had originally looked at the Shooting Star unit, but i thought the backpack would be a little large to carry around much and the double haul backpack is about 2/3 the size. I also purchased the hydration bladder that goes in the backpack.
The chest pack unit has one zippered pocket that also has a foam fly holder insert much like the C&F flyboxes that i read somewhere is replaceable. It has several smaller mesh pockets to hold the usual tools and zingers. A second larger pocket behind the fly pocket also has inner mesh pockets to help you separate the stuff that you have to have. The chest pack unit for the Shooting Star unit is the Windwalker chest pack (available in the chest pack only) and is a little larger than the one with the double haul unit and the fly box pocket has a hard liner. If you don't want the backpack, definitely take a look at the WindWalker chest pack. Very nice little unit. The one that came with my setup can be detached from the backpack and has a separate neckstrap and lumbar strap so that it can be worn just as a chestpack.
The backpack unit is very nice with a large zippered pocket to hold the rain gear, a separate pocket to put your billfold, keys, and other stuff, plus other storage for the gear that you don't use as often and can relegate to the back. The large pocket is a zippered unit that will let it expand. It also has the pocket that holds the hydration bladder with the bite valve and hose. All the straps are comfortably cushioned and expandable. Since i am 2x to 3x size, i had a hard time finding a chest pack that would work for me. If you have the same problem, Fishpond is for you. I bought this from Cal at CR outfitters in Norris.
Rating the product:
Quality definitely high quality construction
Versatility high rating here
Price $150+ with hydration bladder
Adjustment will work for the big guys
overall Elk Hair Caddis because of the price, or maybe because i am getting tighter as i get older
