Have you ever smoked a 5lb boston butt wrapped in bacon? I am trying to think of something or rub that doesn't involve a lot of brown sugar.

Thanks, Petey Never wrapped a butt with bacon.Might have to try it sometime though. Badia Complete Seasoning is great on chicken and bet would be fine on pork as well. Also cracked peppercorn rub is good stuff. Buy a cheap coffee grinder and a container of peppercorns( medley of black,white,green and pink peppercorns is what I use) and grind your own and rub it on.

Those sound good... I like the sound of cracked peppercorn. Do you rub on any salt prior to applying peppercorn to bring the juices to the surface?

Nope no salt. BTW you can wrap most anything in bacon and make it good. Here are two types of tater tots wrapped in bacon! Heheeeee! I call them crowns and rounds. Crowns are the little flat discs with a slice of jalapeno pepper and some cheese wrapped in bacon and rounds are the longer tots wrapped in bacon and both cooked on a grill! ;D

Those sound good... I like the sound of cracked peppercorn. Do you rub on any salt prior to applying peppercorn to bring the juices to the surface? i use olive oil to make the surface more tacky to help hold the rub in place. I also use a mustard slather at times. Mustard does not impart any taste to the meat but holds rubs in place very well.
